George W. Vanderbilt (1862-1914)

The youngest son of W.H. Vanderbilt, George Vanderbilt did not follow his brothers in the family railroad business, but chose instead a life of learning and travel. He is perhaps best known for his magnificent Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina, where he gathered experts in architecture, landscaping, agriculture, and forestry to create his self-sustaining European-style estate.

Dear Neal & Michele,

Spent most of a day at Biltmore recently, as part of a Tenn.-NC visit. Wished we'd had time to continue on to Georgia.

Dees
