17th President of the United States

CARD IMAGE:

Andrew Johnson National Historic Site

This portrait show Andrew Johnson as a U.S. Senator from Tennessee. Painted in 1860 by Samuel Shaver, it probably would have been destroyed by the soldiers occupying the Johnson home without the quick thinking of Sarah Cutler, a Johnson neighbor. She wrapped it in newspaper and used it as a firescreen throughout the war.

Dear Jay, Deb, Dees & Robert,

In case you don't have a portrait of A. Johnson for home or office, here is one.
