Andrew Johnson National Historic Site
This portrait show Andrew Johnson as a U.S. Senator from Tennessee. Painted in 1860 by Samuel Shaver, it probably would have been destroyed by the soldiers occupying the Johnson home without the quick thinking of Sarah Cutler, a Johnson neighbor. She wrapped it in newspaper and used it as a firescreen throughout the war.

Dear Ed,
A good domestic trip always includes a dead president site -- or more than one. If we'd had time, we would have seen Mary Todd's house in Lexington as well.
